At McKee College we aim to build careers and career pathways into every aspect of the school.
We want out students to be informed and prepared for the next steps once they leave our care.
To support this we have worked within the Gatsby Benchmarks to be secure that we are providing our students with an excellent CEIAG programme throughout all year groups in our setting.

McKee College is committed to:
- Providing a planned programme of activities for which all students from Years 7 – 11 take part.
- Providing ICAG which is impartial, unbiased and is based on the needs of students, showing no bias or favouritism towards a particular education or work option.
- Ensuring that the CEIAG and employability Learning programme follows local, regional and national frameworks for good practice and other relevant guidance from DfE and OFSTED.
- Provide a programme which is student centred, integrated into the whole curriculum and based on a partnership with students and their parents/carers.
- Taking an inclusive approach and ensure all students with SEN / SEND are support to access the careers programme and are supported fully in exploring all options and planning for their next steps.
- Working with a range of partners to ensure students have access to impartial and independent information and guidance about the range of options that will help students achieve their ambitions.
- Ensuring all students are supported in accessing education, employment or training at the relevant transition points.
DELIVERY
At McKee College, CEIAG is provided through a wide range of pathways which together make up our overarching CEIAG provision plan. These include:
- Curriculum provision within subject lessons
- Cross-curricular provision during curriculum time as part of non-subject provision such as Tutor Time, Thematic Days, Assemblies and other ad hoc events
- Extra-curricular provision taking place away from the classroom including opportunities as part of clubs, trips or sports teams
- Individualised provision such as individual meetings with the careers advisor, tutor, or work experience
- Roles that students can play within the school, such as Student Receptionist, Student Councillor, or Prefect

Putting Careers at the forefront of everything we do
Within subject areas teachers will reinforce the relevance of their subject and content to the world of work or further education. Students often complain that subject content doesn’t match the real world “when am I ever going to need that” is a common cry. Our teachers keep content relevant and reference it against real world skills and knowledge. The curriculum maps for each subject reference careers throughout the students time at our school.
We have a prominent display board which maps out the pathways that past students followed to reach their goals, be that an apprenticeship, a job or university. What choices they made and what advice they would give to their younger selves. We have had ex students come back into school to give advice to the younger students on how to make informed choices ie apprenticeship or further education, the pros and cons.
Our curriculum has changed to incorporate increased vocational and enterprise aspects as many students just want to get involved in the world of work at the earliest point and start carving out their fortunes!
In the past people may have had one or two jobs in their entire lives, this generation can expect to have dozens, the job for life is no longer an option or a choice. We therefore are committed as a school to give our students a wide experience of skill learning opportunities within a curriculum offer that combines with a CEIAG programme that meets all need.
Application for Provider Access
Introduction
This document sets out McKee College’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to pupils at the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
Pupil entitlement
Every student at McKee College is entitled to High quality CEIAG which meets professional standards of practice and is both personalised and impartial. It is part of each students overall education to raise their aspirations and prepare them for the world of work.
All pupils in years 7-11 are entitled:
To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.

Opportunities for access
- McKee College offers comprehensive Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance within their curriculum.
- An overview of this programme can be seen on the school website.
- McKee College welcomes input into our careers provision from employees and employers, Universities, Apprenticeships & Further Education providers. A number of events throughout the academic year will provide opportunities for providers to come into school and speak to our students. Outside agencies are also invited to support our curriculum.
- Please speak to our Careers Advisor, Joanna Eaves, to identify the most suitable opportunity for you.
- McKee College will make a suitable space available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. The school will also make available ICT and other specialist equipment to support provider presentations. This will all be discussed and agreed in advance of the visit with Joanna Eaves.
- Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature, so that they can be displayed on our school noticeboards around the school.
