All students who attend McKee College are assessed to identify any unmet learning needs which may have gone unnoticed in prior settings. This information will help us better meet each students individual needs be that in supporting learning or applying for exam concessions.

We offer a very high level of student support as part of our standard offer to all students but if necessary we will involve an Educational Psychologist to develop additional supporting strategies or write a report to support an EHCP.

To ensure that as many students as possible have a positive destination we give unparalleled support through our CEIAG programme (Careers Education Independent Advice Guidance). This includes career fairs, interviews, support with applications and visits to providers. We work towards the Gatsby Benchmarks which are;

The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance

1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance

The school currently has a 100% rating on our Gatsby benchmark.

Ensuring that students have a positive onward destination that is sustained is very important to us which is why we maintain contact with students for up to 3 years from date of leaving. Our current NEET rate based on 2024 leavers is less than 13% which is below the National and Lancashire average for all schools.
