Our School Offer
McKee College offers its students an excellent opportunity to continue with their current studies or to start afresh. Our aim is to;
- Assess each student to ensure that we understand their needs and how we can personalise their learning experience.
- Provide a curriculum which meets the needs of learners be that academic or vocational.
- Support students in a caring and nurturing environment based on strong, positive lines of communication.
- Prepare our students to be ready for the next steps in their lives.
McKee College operates over 3 sites;
- College House in Poulton
- Breck House in Poulton
- Blakiston House in Fleetwood
Each site has a particular group of learners which benefit from a personalised learning experience, underpinned by the culture and ethos of McKee College.
All of our students have the opportunity to study a curriculum which is in line with mainstream secondary, delivered by specialist teachers in small class sizes with a maximum of 8 students. The classrooms are well resourced and typically have an additional teaching assistant in support. Our current GCSE offer is;
Subject | Board |

English Language and Literature | WJEC |
Science Double Award | AQA |
Triple Science (where appropriate) | AQA |

As well as the excellent teaching of each of the GCSE courses we offer by subject specialists, students will also have a key worker who will support them and communicate regularly with home. The relationship with the key worker is invaluable in ensuring that lines of communication are open and regular.
All students who attend McKee College are assessed to identify any unmet learning needs which may have gone unnoticed in prior settings. This information will help us better meet each students individual needs be that in supporting learning or applying for exam concessions.
We offer a very high level of student support as part of our standard offer to all students but if necessary we will involve an Educational Psychologist to develop additional supporting strategies or write a report to support an EHCP.
Complimenting our core GCSE offer we can provide a combined curriculum of Vocational and Academic courses for KS4 students. Our current offer is;
Course | Course Specific Qualification |
Construction Skills | WJEC Construction Level 1/2 |
Creative Skills | BTEC Childcare Level 1/2 and Beauty Therapy |
Trident Military Preparation | BTEC Public Services Level 1/2 |
Students will spend two full days in the Construction and Creative workshops and two days in the Teaching rooms studying GCSE English, Maths, Science and PFWL. We can also support students with Work Related Learning.
The Trident Military Preparation programme is a highly specialised course delivered by ex serviceman. It prepares students for the rigors of public service application and interviews. Ideally students should be focused on careers in the Military, Police or Fire Services.
Our offer is designed to meet the needs of the wide range of learners we work with, ensuring that they are engaged and are ready for the next steps be that college, apprenticeship or work with education.
To ensure that as many students as possible have a positive destination we give unparalleled support through our CEIAG programme (Careers Education Independent Advice Guidance). This includes career fairs, interviews, support with applications and visits to providers. We work towards the Gatsby Benchmarks which are;
The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance
1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education

Ensuring that students have a positive onward destination that is sustained is very important to us which is why we maintain contact with students for up to 3 years from date of leaving.
